B2B: Understanding the Millennial Consumer

Companies are intensely competing for millennial consumers, those that were born between 1981-1997, and it’s only the tip of the iceberg.  There are eighty million millennials in America alone and they represent about a fourth of the entire population, with $200 billion in annual buying power.  They have a lot of influence over older generations and are trendsetters across all industries. Companies have been struggling to connect with this generation.  Many of the traditional methods of selling and advertising have proven ineffective at capturing the millennial consumers attention. Furthermore, many companies believe in certain myths about millennials that are just not accurate, including that they aren’t brand loyal.  Read More –  B2B: Understanding the Millennial Consumer

  • Millennials will make up as much as 75% of the U.S. workforce by 2025.
  • These eighty million or more millennials will become the generation with the greatest spending power by 2017.
  • Millennial shoppers spend more time (approximately 1,200 hours annually) and money (nearly $2,000 annually) online than other generations.
  • Millennials are more connected to technology than any other generation, according to research from the White House Council of Economic Advisers. These tech-savvy buyers use their laptops, tablets and smartphones to stay connected in real time to the listings in their desired area.
  • These consumers retain 95 percent of a message when they watch it in a video compared with 10 percent when reading it in text, so savvy companies should share video content to showcase their products.  Millennials retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video compared to 10% with text.

The Benefits of AMMEX Orange Nitrile Gloves

Orange nitrile gloves are one of AMMEX’s premium glove products – ideal for many industries and situations. When it comes to versatility, it is hard to beat AMMEX’s orange nitrile gloves. Want more information? Check out the infographic below!

Texture and gripping power
These gloves have a raised diamond texture designed to give wearers a better, stronger grip. With more than 3,000 raised diamonds on each glove, these products have 60 percent more surface area than a standard nitrile glove. The raised diamond grip allows wearers to work effectively in wet or dry conditions. The diamonds create channels that allow liquid to pass through easily, preventing fluids from interfering with work. The texture is all over the surface, making the gloves ambidextrous.

Better visibility
In dimly lit environments, orange nitrile gloves are a worker’s best friend. The high-impact orange color of these gloves is easy to see even in dark areas, like garages or industrial workplaces. The color of these gloves are a helpful warning to those around you that says, “Be careful! I’m working here!” For companies that prioritize safety, these gloves are a must-have. The high-visibility color also increases safety compliance.

Thickness and protection
Orange nitrile gloves are three times more puncture-resistant than latex and also have enhanced chemical resistance and durability. In fact, nitrile is recommended for employees working with 67 percent of chemicals, 28 percent more than latex or vinyl. These gloves are also incredibly comfortable. As body heat warms them up, they conform closely to the hand for a better fit. Along with a beaded cuff that makes the glove easier to put on, they are also chlorinated for powder-free donning. The chlorination process also makes them softer and more supple.

A variety of uses
With their high-visibility, orange nitrile gloves can be a central part of PPE. The thickness of the gloves also makes them ideal in oily environments, such as in automotive, manufacturing and industrial sectors. However, any industry from agriculture to painting and plumbing can benefit from having orange nitrile gloves on hand.

The Right Glove for the Job

Disposable gloves are used for a multitude of purposes, from food preparation to medical to automotive. However, it’s important to know which type of gloves are best suited for your intended purpose. Here’s a look at the main types of gloves and their uses:

Latex
Latex gloves offer the best fit and dexterity, which is why  these gloves are more comfortable for longer wear. Outside of the medical and dental fields, latex gloves are commonly used for janitorial work, beauty services, child care, safe chemical handling, plumbing and painting.

Nitrile
Currently, 80 percent of the disposable gloves in the automotive field are nitrile because they offer superior puncture resistance and barrier protection against a variety of harsh chemicals. Nitrile gloves are also becoming more popular in the medical and dental fields because of the growing prevalence of latex sensitivities. Nitrile gloves conform to the hands during wear for comfortable fit, and they are highly resistant to a variety of chemicals. Industrial and medical grade nitrile gloves come in a range of different colors, which may be functional as well as eye-catching. For example, orange industrial-grade nitrile gloves help workers be more aware of their hands when working in dark environments.

Vinyl
As more food service and processing workers use gloves during preparation, vinyl glove usage is taking off. Vinyl gloves contain no latex, have a smooth surface and have a looser fit than nitrile or latex gloves although they still conform to the hands. These gloves are also used in other industries, including medical and janitorial-sanitation.

Poly
Poly gloves are perfect for food preparation and handling because of their loose fit, which makes it easier for employees to remove the gloves for more frequent glove changes. Stretch poly gloves have a more enhanced grip and are easier to don.

Beyond Medical Exam Gloves

Did you know workers in the medical and dental industries use an average of 15 pairs of disposable gloves each day which is 3,960 pairs each year? While this number may appear high, it is not that different – or even the highest usage – compared to glove usage in other industries.

When people think of disposable gloves, they often picture doctors or nurses snapping latex gloves on their hands. However, the medical and dental industries are far from the only places where gloves are used.

Let’s consider the glove revenue for these combined industries, which was nearly $5 billion in 2012. While this is an impressive figure, it is a little more than half the glove revenue for the industrial safety industry. If this is not enough of an indication of how medical and dental glove usage is just a small part of the total market, consider that the revenue share for this sector was approximately 27 percent of the total in 2012.

This is all not to say there are not still opportunities for glove use in exam settings – all applications are projected to see significant growth. Yet, the data does indicate there are a wealth of opportunities to get workers in various industries the gloves they need to get the job done.

Changes: Gloves in the Automotive Industry

Changes: Gloves in the Automotive Industry

Not long ago, if you asked automotive technicians about wearing disposable gloves, they probably would’ve laughed.

These workers traditionally did not wear gloves, but that practice is going out the window.  In fact, technicians in this industry on average wear 13 pairs of gloves each day – and in some cases up to 16 pairs.

So what is driving the disposable glove revenue growth – about $1 billion in 2012 and projected to reach $1.3 billion in 2022 – in the automotive industry? The answer is protection from harsh chemicals, which is why 80 percent of the gloves used in this application are nitrile gloves. As more auto technicians wear gloves, this is a key growth area for distributors.

Disposable Gloves in the Food Industry

When it comes to disposable glove usage in the food processing and food service industries, the phrase “less is more” finds a home.

These industries have the highest glove usage of all sectors – 20 pairs per worker each day on average. However, employees use some of the most affordable glove materials: polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride. Because these gloves are inexpensive, they’re perfect for the two food industries, where workers change gloves often.

Consider the combined 2012 disposable glove revenue for these industries, which was $3.3 billion and the second-highest among all industries. With an affordable price point, imagine how many pairs of gloves that figure represents. Customers can purchase a lot of gloves to get the protection they need at a low price. In the end, poly and vinyl gloves offer the value and ease food service workers need.  Become an AMMEX distributor today to learn more about gloves suitable for the food industry.

Disposable Glove Usage: Industrial Safety and Chemical

Did you know the industrial, safety and chemical industries had the highest disposable glove revenue, on par with the medical and dental industry in 2012? Not only was this sector the top contender for industrial markets that year, analysts project it will continue to have the second highest overall revenue by 2022.

While industrial safety is a broad area, one need remains key: chemical protection. This is why nitrile gloves account for 65 percent of the glove material distribution in this industry.

Considering the American Burn Association said 3 percent of hospital admissions for burns from 2003 to 2012 were for chemical burns, and 9 percent of all burns were occupational, workers in the industrial and safety industry are vital potential customers for nitrile and other glove materials that offer chemical resistance.

Disposable Glove Growth Opportunities in the JanSan Industry

With regard to disposable glove revenue, the janitorial-sanitation industry has one of the lowest figures, but that does not mean it is not a target market for distributors. In fact, the Jan-san industry has the second-highest revenue growth potential of all sectors, indicating the market is ripe for expansion.

Jan-san employees use gloves for various reasons, including protection from harsh chemicals and pathogens. Additionally, they use an average of 15 pairs per day, which is on par with the usage rates in the medical, dental and food processing industries.

With the potential for vinyl, nitrile and latex glove sales, distributors do not want to miss out on the many sales opportunities in the jan-san industry.
